The past tense is a tense that expresses an activity or a situation that occurred previously

Simple Past Tense

The simple past tense is used to represent a past activity that is complete at the time of speaking
Example
“I played a game yesterday”.
“ He washed his clothes”
“ He didn’t watched the movie”

Past Continuous Tense

The past continuous tense refers to a continuing action or state that was happening at some point in the past
Example
“My stomach was aching”.
“I was writing the homework”
“The students were reading in the classroom”

Past Perfect Tense

In a sentence or conversation, the past perfect tense represents an event that occurred before another event in the simple past tense was completed in the past.
Example
“He had studied German before he moved to Germany”
“She had never played cricket until last week”
“They had established their company before 2009”

Past Perfect Continuous Tense

The past perfect continuous tense is used to represent events that occurred in the past up until another event occurred in the past.
Example
“He had been working here for two years”
“I had been writing novels for seven months”
“We had been playing cricket for three hours”
